Although this park looks like it is in pristine condition it is still in recovery from logging operations which took place in the late 18 & early 1900’s. Most of the forest is second growth but there are a few spots where old growth still stands and you can see just how amazing this forest once was. As you enter the park, you walk along the very logging road which serviced the mill that processed the massive 500 year old trees, loggers brought down more than 100 years ago. Once you get to Cedar Mill you will find pieces of the past, strewn about as evidence of a not so nature friendly past. From this point the hiking gets more difficult and you need to be prepared. Many people have needed to be rescued from this valley so make sure you have appropriate foot wear, clothing, food, water and also be prepared for an unexpected overnight stay. It is a good idea to leave an itinerary with someone so that if you do not return North shore Search & Rescue can come get ya. You hiking choices in this park are many depending on your fitness levels and need for adventure. Print off a map and see what suits your ability and available time. The only trails I would suggest for those who are inexperienced or not prepared are:
All other trails in this park require appropriate clothing and planned for. Headwaters ParkFull Featured Map Here
